Bio

If you have even the slightest interest in silver, be it idle curiosity or hunger for owning the best, we here at Koopman Rare Art make it our business to provide you with that opportunity. With objects ranging in price from £50 to £5m, silver is our passion.

We are situated at the entrance to the London Silver Vaults, located on Chancery Lane close to St Paul’s Cathedral. We deal in silver dating from circa 1500 through to the modern day. Whether it is American, European or Asian, it matters not; but what does matter is quality and design.

Certain names as in any field of art, spring to mind when you consider silver. Just as Rembrandt is to the Old Masters, silversmiths such as Paul de Lamerie, Paul Storr and Garrard are relevant to our field. Koopman Rare Art hold the largest selection of works by these pre-eminent silversmiths.

Over the years we have built up some of the most important private collections of silver including the famous Mahdi AlTajir Collection and we have worked closely with museums, both here in England and on an international level.

This tradition built up by Jacques and my father Michael is continued by my partner, Lewis Smith and myself. We operate from our extensive premises in Chancery Lane but the reach of our firm is global, with large displays at annual antique fairs in Maastricht, Italy and New York. Furthermore we visit clients in the Americas and Asia as well as Europe. Koopman Rare Art have been members of the British Antique Dealers Association for many years and in 2004 we were awarded the British Antique and Collectables Award for Specialist Dealer.

As well as such important objects, items as simple as a single tea pot, decorative centrepieces and any number of household and dining items are here on view. The range of products also include objects of vertu, such as items by Cartier or Faberge, gold boxes, Viennese enamels and micromosaics - little gems that would lift anyones spirit. Indeed if you are looking to sell, buy or further your knowledge in in any of these departments, we would be delighted to welcome you here at our premises in Chancery Lane.
