Antoine Helwaser established his gallery in Paris in 1985 in the prestigious Avenue Matignon neighborhood. After having held many successful exhibitions, both in his gallery and at international art fairs, where he exposed the work of such diverse artists as Andy Warhol, Picasso, Basquiat, Dubuffet and Renoir, Antoine Helwaser made a decision : in order to create an active dialogue he began exposing the works of artists from different periods of the 20th century side-by-side. By refusing to limit himself, he has been able to stay true to those criteria which to him are essential : quality, originality, and creativity.
He may, for example, skillfully combine a cubist work, an expressionist painting or a surrealist photo, revealing the differences and similarties between the generations and their respecitive artistic tendencies, and in doing so, creating a sense of unity among the varied works. His exhibitions are consisently hailed by the public and art critics alike.
Two years ago, after more than twenty-five years of activity, Antoine Helwaser relocated to New York, where he is now closer to his American clientele, to whom he continues to display his recent aquisitions, always selected with the utmost attention.
